I believe in having high expectations of the children to follow classroom rules and to help them understand the reasons behind rules. I want all of the children to have the opportunity to learn and for no student to keep another student from being able to learn. I strive to provide a safe and comfortable learning environment for the children in which we work and live as a team family in our classroom.  These are our classroom rules:

1.Raise your hand to talk in class

2.Listen while others are talking

3.Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself

4.Be Kind

5.Always do your very best

I based our classroom discipline plan on our school’s discipline policy. I started with a stoplight and buses. I decided to include this on here because many parents come up and ask me, ”What does getting your stick moved mean?”

Each child has a bus with his/her name on it. All the buses begin the day with a green stick behind them.  Beside the buses is a stoplight with the colors that remind children that consequences exist for misbehaving. Every child will begin each day on green.  Yellow is a warning and 10 minutes of missed playtime. Red is a note home and/or a visit to the principal.

When a child does something inappropriate, he/she has to move their stick to yellow, and then so on. If a child’s stick is still on green at the end of the day, they will get a stamp on their hand so you know they have been good.
