Fire Safety

We have been busy learning about fire safety this week.   The children have learned to dial 911 in case of an emergency.  They have also been practicing their address and phone number so that they could tell someone where they live.

We have practiced what to do if our clothes were on fire.  We also learned that you should always stay low and go when getting out of a house that is on fire.  We talked about how important it is for every family to have a meeting place outside of your house in case of a fire!

Travis Mulvany, with the Kinmundy/Alma Fire Department, a student teacher in Mrs. Munter's class, talked with all of the kindergarten classes at Hawthorn.  The Salem Fire Department brought a fire truck for all of the students to look at.

"Firefighter Song"
(Sung to "I'm a Little Teapot")

I'm a firefighter, dressed in red.
I wear a fire helmet on my head.
I hurry to the fire and give a shout.
With a burst of water,
The fire is out!

"Fire Truck Song"
(Sung to "Pop Goes the Weasel")

Down the street the engine goes
The firemen fight the fire
Up the ladder with the hose
Out goes the fire!

"I Found Matches!"
(Sung to "Skip to my Lou")

I found [matches] what do I do?
I found [matches] what do I do?
I found [matches] what do I do?
Tell me what to do!

Give them to a grown-up that's what I'll do!
Give them to a grown-up that's what I'll do!
Give them to a grown-up that's what I'll do!
Give them to a grown-up!

*replace matches with lighter for 2nd verse

Never Play with Matches
(Sung to "Frere Jacques")

Never, never play with [matches]
NO! NO! NO!
NO! NO! NO!
You might start a fire
You might burn your fingers
NO! NO! NO!

*replace matches with lighter for 2nd verse

Stop, Drop, and Roll!
(Sung to "Farmer in the Dell")

Stop, Drop, and Roll
Stop, Drop, and Roll
If your clothes should catch on fire,
Stop, Drop, and Roll

9-1-1
(Sung to "Frere Jacques")

There's a fire!
There's a fire!
9-1-1!
9-1-1!
Call the fire department!
Call the fire department!
9-1-1!
9-1-1!
