One person's junk is another person's treasure!

You could really tell that the old adage is true on the day of our kindergarten junk sale. You will see below how much fun the children had as they worked at the bank, the junk r us store, the candy store, the book store, the theatre, and the amazing Kindergarten Kafe. On the first day of the sale, half of our five kindergarten classes worked at the businesses. The second day the children switched places - the workers from the first day became the customers for the second day and vice versa. Our class worked in the Kindergarten Kafe. From the hostess, to the seater, the servers, the busboys, the kitchen workers and the cashier in the restaurant all of the children worked together and did their jobs. It was great fun to work and host the other classes. When the children came to our room the first thing that happened was that they were greeted by the hostess who asked their names and how many were in their party. Then the seater took them to the tables and gave them menus. The seater told the customers that their server would be with them right away. The server came to the table and greeted the customer, telling them his or her name and asking for their order. When they recorded the order and added up the cost of the bill they took the bill to the kitchen where the workers filled the order and put the food on a tray. The customers were served and enjoyed a pleasant meal complete with flowers on the table and quiet background music. When they finished eating, they took their bills to the cashier. It was GREAT fun! The customers enjoyed their day as well. The first stop was the bank where we had to sign our check and cash it. We were given twenty cents to spend. Our first top was the Kindergarten Kafe - our turn to eat, not work. The next stop was the B. Readin' Book Store where there were many books to choose from. Very tempting candy was available at the Sweet Shop. Next, a dinosaur movie was showing at the theatre where popcorn and soda were available for purchase. A HUGE selection of toys which the children had brought (each child donated a clean, working toy they did not play with any more) was displayed in our Junk 'r' Us store. They paid for their purchases at each location. Budgeting was a problem because they knew they needed to save enough for the entire shopping trip. Everyone seemed to be very happy with their purchases. What a fantastic two days! Junk sales are the best!
